Waterside is an appeal from the soul to the psyche for grace and forgiveness when self-image and sense of worth become battered by the unyielding forces of fear and depression. The song attempts to bear the weight of anxious thoughts that tend to be heaviest at night and, through dogged repetition of rhythm and mantra, carve a pathway towards acceptance and appreciation of the self. Two key phrases echo throughout that seek to extricate the guilt and shame of careless living from the individual embodying the life, “it is what it is,” and “don’t be hard on yourself.”
